Wizards' Butler may be out for season

Caron Butler is what many describe as a "warrior" on the court for the Wizards, who were looking for huge things this playoff season. However, if they want to do big things, they'll have to do it without one of their biggest names and try to make up the 19 points a game he averages; Butler suffered a fractured index finger versus the Bucks, and fans are starting to panic.

After a steal by the Bucks' Ruben Patterson, Butler tried to block his shot, his hand catching the underside of the backboard. He immediately knew there was a problem. "I was like, 'this thing is broke'. That's why I was staring at it all the way up the court."

Coach Eddie Jordan has already put a bullseye on some players to step it up, including Darius Songalia and Jarvis Hayes. Jordan also noted that not only will the Wizards miss his physical numbers, but also "his mind set, toughness, his aggressive nature, his blue-collar approach to the game."

Butler has already stated that he feels if he comes back, it wouldn't be at the earliest until the second or third round, and that he's already precluded that next year is the best bet. One thing is for sure: Gilbert Arenas can make up the points and help the Wizards for only so long, but it's been Butler that has been the catalyst this year. This is a very tough break for Washington. Just like the Chicago Cubs, wait 'til next year.
