Worst-case scenario: NBA referee faces possible fixing charges

It couldn't have come at a worse time.

While the league continues to pick itself back up from the seemingly onslaught of players in lawsuits, getting in brawls, being selfish on and off the court, paternity issues, and everything in between, it took another blow when the media learned that an NBA referee is being investigated for possibly fixing games, reaching the tens of thousands in amounts betted on.

Ouch.

NBA commisioner David Stern can only say "no comment" at this time, but he has to be reeling from this. He's fought and fought to keep the league in a positive light and continue to control it as best as he can, and the league was applauded for doing such things as extending suspensions for players like Ron Artest and Stephen Jackson for things even non-related to the sport because of the reflection on the NBA. And now, we learn that games and possibly the playoffs themselves were altered by the men in stripes.

We'll learn more later, but this could be a very, very, VERY bad thing for all of the fans that have supported their teams and this league for however long.
